We are having a PRE-SALE of brand new Vashon Eagles Hoodies and T-shirts! Designed by dedicated member Amy Drayer. We have multiple colors and sizes, and there is a Mid-weight Zip Hoodie in addition to the Heavyweight Pullover option pictured above. Order online or at the club by the end of the day November 1st to pre-order yours! You can go to our Store page on our website, or just click here: STORE
Orders will be placed on November 2nd and should be ready for pickup in 2-3 weeks. We will let you know when they are available. For years, the Vashon Eagles has honored all who have served our country by providing a free meal to our veterans and this November 11th, we are pleased to be able to continue that tradition. As in the past, please see the bartender on duty to obtain a dinner ticket.
I cannot stress this enough; please register for or purchase a dinner ticket by Monday, November 8th to guarantee your dinner availability. Priority dinner service will be given to members who have obtained their dinner ticket in advance. Walk-ins on November 11 will be able to purchase dinner only if there is enough food to accommodate those who have pre-purchased/reserved their meal. All veterans are eligible for a free meal and their spouses and caregivers are eligible for a discounted dinner. All others are welcome to purchase a dinner ticket at full price and join us in our thanks and celebration of our service members. Dinner tickets will be available at the bar beginning on November 1st. I will post an update with details of the dinner on Sunday, October 31st. Veterans who are unable to come to the club may reserve their meal by phone. Please note that if you are a spouse, caregiver, or regular member, you must purchase your dinner ticket in-person. No phone-in reservations for dinners that must be purchased. In the meantime, I welcome your suggestions regarding what to serve! In the past it has typically been meatloaf and mashed potatoes and I am happy to continue that tradition, but if you'd like to change it up a bit, please let me know over the next few days! We understand that many of our veterans are elderly or may have compromised immunity and so may not feel comfortable with in-person dining. I am currently looking for volunteers willing to give a brief moment of their time to deliver meals to any of our veterans who request this accommodation. If you would like to show your appreciation for their sacrifices by being available to deliver a veteran's meal, please let me or Megan know. Your help is valued and appreciated! Cheers, Sabrina Did you know:
Shaw, T. (2020, January 1). Veterans Day in USA in 2021. Officeholidays.Com; Office Holidays Ltd. https://www.officeholidays.com/holidays/usa/veterans-day Yes! This Friday, October 29th from 5pm until sold out.
Mark Bouska will be braving the elements to smoke 3 of our 6 prime ribs and Jordan Cross will be in the kitchen, preparing our other 3 roasts in the oven. Accompanying our prime rib will be fingerling potatoes and farm-fresh green beans. Dinner will also come with a Caesar salad and pumpkin custard pie bars, prepared by yours truly. Dinner is 25.00 for the standard cut of meat and 30.00 for our generous Eagle cut. I am really pleased to finally be able to offer you a prime rib night, as many of you have expressed a desire for one. It takes quite a few people to make a prime rib night happen and, as I hope you know, everyone involved- from the cooks to the servers -is a volunteer. It takes a concerted group effort to provide our prime rib night. We need people to shop for supplies, prep ingredients, prepare the roasts and sides, take the orders, serve, help bus tables, clean up afterwards, and wash dishes throughout the evening. Even in the best of times it can be difficult to find this many people willing to volunteer their time to help make events like prime rib night happen. The advent of Covid has made everything, from sourcing affordable ingredients to securing volunteers, exponentially more difficult. And so, to those of you who regularly donate your time and other resources to our club, I extend an enormous THANK YOU!!! We cannot do it without your help. If you'd like to see more events happening at our club please consider donating your time and expertise! Talk to me, Sabrina, or Megan about offering your valuable resources to help make our club even better! Together, we can do it! Howdy, y'all! Look who stopped by to promote our raffle/fund-raiser! As many of you may know, we were recently able to fix our leaky roof. Yeehaw!! We hired Ojeda's to do the work and they were quick and efficient. Funds to fix the roof were approved and allocated before the pandemic struck and were based on the cost of materials and labor at the time. As we are all aware, the pandemic disrupted supply chains as well as resulted in an increase in demand for building supplies, as many people found themselves at home with time on their hands to work on home-improvement projects. As a result, the cost of building materials has skyrocketed. The roof could not wait-out another wet season in the hopes that supply costs would be more reasonable next year, so the repair project went ahead, over-budget. Holding a raffle fund-raiser seemed like the way to go to help us to fill the gap between the originally approved amount to fix the roof and give our members a chance to win a super-sweet payout! Next time you stop in, buy a few tickets! The more people who play, the faster we reach our goal, and the sooner you get your chance to win $1,500.00!! Thanks for stoppin' by, Dolly! Hello Eagles Family! I would like to bend your ear, as the saying goes, and tell you a few things you may not be aware of with regard to the meals I prepare for the club. Many of you are already aware of my fondness for the cuisines of Asia, India, and the Middle-East and as a result, I tend to prepare meals with these flavor profiles. But did you also know that I typically alter the recipes I use as inspiration to make them a bit healthier? For example, I often use a technique called dry sautéing which cuts out hundreds of added calories from fat. I frequently do this when I know I'll be adding other calorie-dense, saturated fat and cholesterol-heavy ingredients such as butter or cream and, when I do work with those ingredients, I often cut down on the required amounts, relying heavily on spices to impart more oomf to your taste-buds. Fats are a necessary component of a healthy diet, but certain fats are better than others. I would like to take my meals a few steps further in the health direction because I feel very passionately about good health and I would like my meals to better reflect my desire to provide food that not only tastes delicious but is also good for you! My personal journey to better health (did you know I used to weigh over 200 pounds?) taught me a great deal about the importance of making changes to eating habits and that it is a lifelong commitment, not a short-term solution. I learned a lot about nutrition on my own and I realized I really enjoy sharing that information with others. So much so, that I have also decided to go back to school to get a Master's in Nutrition and Dietetics so I can have the knowledge and tools to really help individuals on their journey to better health through food. I am very excited to be able to put into practice what I know in the kitchen and translate that into delicious, healthy food for my Eagles family. See you at the club for dinner!
PS- Don't worry, I'll still make pierogis! Hello, hungry Eagles! Thank you for your patience and understanding as I try to find volunteers to help keep us well-fed. I am super-excited to let you know that the wonderful JB Fitzpatrick has returned to Taco Tuesday, starting tomorrow! Yes, as of July 13, JB is back in the kitchen on Tuesdays to satisfy our taco cravings. Be sure to stop by, grab a bite to eat, and give JB an extra-special Welcome Back. I, for one, am very grateful to have him back in the kitchen! Thank you, JB!!
After taking the month of June off, I am also back in the kitchen on Wednesdays. I will be following a more regular schedule for my meal planning so that you can better plan for days that you definitely don't want to miss. Which, if we're being honest, is every Wednesday, right?! I will also be re-launching our monthly kitchen introduction meetings which I had started right before we had to shut down. These meetings are meant to introduce members to our kitchen and, hopefully, overcome the "fear" of cooking in a commercial kitchen. I often hear from members who would like to volunteer in the kitchen but are unsure or hesitant due to not having any familiarity with cooking for a large number of people or using the equipment in a commercial kitchen. I hope that by having these meetings more of our members will feel confident about volunteering their time and talent in our kitchen. Burger Monday and Sunday Breakfast are going strong and getting better every week. Corey has taken on Sunday breakfast and Mike continues to satisfy your fast-food cravings on Mondays. As we all navigate the changes to everyday life and get into our new routines I hope to be able to add to our solid line-up of food offerings, especially on Friday night. Do you have a favorite food you'd like to share with the club? Let me know. Let's make it happen! I'm so glad you asked! At some point I will figure out how to add things to our calendar here on our website, but for now this will have to do. I'm really excited to announce that we will have dinner at the club almost every day of the week for the rest of May, including a special Prime Rib Night with Hoover on the last Friday of May!
This Friday, the 14th, sees one of our newest members returning to the kitchen to make us some tasty Cheesesteaks served with Old Fashioned Potato Salad. Next Wednesday's dinner will be Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce and Cucumber Salad. Friday, May 21st, Corey will be back in the kitchen to cook us a fabulous dinner in addition to teaming up with Bob every week for Taco Tuesday. Last, but certainly not least, mark your calendar for Friday, May 28th so you don't miss out on Hoover's delectable Prime Rib! In addition to our guest chef nights we will continue to offer Burgers and Fish-n-Chips on Mondays, south-of-the-border themed fare on Taco Tuesdays, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Mediterranean inspired meals on Wednesdays, Thursdays with Chris's delightful takes on classic comfort foods, and Sunday Brunch. If you would like to learn more about what it takes to be a guest chef in our kitchen please call the club and ask to speak with me, Sabrina! Our volunteers truly keep our club running. If you enjoy the tasty meals and excellent value for money that your club provides, thank a volunteer today for all they do to make your visit enjoyable. We do it because we love you! Here is the zoom information. Please join us if you'd like!

Nominations close on May 6th at the Aerie meeting. Reminder that dues need to be current (paid up) before voting. From what I know so far, we have people planning to run for all officer positions except for Secretary and Treasurer. Both positions require some computer work in addition to other duties. Secretary position is a paid position (based on membership numbers, not an hourly wage). You can contact me for more details or email us at [email protected]. If you are interested in any of the officer positions, you just need to be present at the May 6th meeting and throw your name in. If you can't be present, you will need to write a letter of acceptance for the position you want to run for (signed) and give it to a fellow member who will need to nominate you and then present the letter. I will be posting bios for all of the nominees shortly after nominations. Looking forward to a good turnout! We still have some T-Shirts left for sale! These are $22 for all sizes except XXL, which are $24. Ask your bartender what sizes are available!
We have lots of these custom 1.75oz shot glasses I designed! I notified everyone about the presale for them, but forgot to let everyone know that they are available to buy : )
Single shot glass is $4 Party Pack (set of 6) is only $20! Many of you already know that the club strives to offer tasty and affordable meals to our members, but did you know that we have a food library? Prior to Covid 19 the cabinet near the main entrance held our lending/book exchange library, games, and children's art materials. Since these items were off-limits due to Covid, a while back they were removed and placed in storage and the cabinet stood empty for a long time. One day, Marne (the club's manager at the time) had a brilliant idea. Why not use the cabinet to distribute food? We could have our own little food-bank that our members could avail themselves of as needed. And so, our little food library was born.
These trying times have brought about a great deal of generosity and some of us, at times, have been overwhelmed with abundance. Our little food library is one way that we can share with each other. Some of the things in the library are items that were donated to the club directly and others are things that members have brought in. What is important to know, however, is that everyone is welcome to help themselves. I have spoken with more than a few members who feel that perhaps they shouldn't take anything because they don't feel they "deserve" to because they have money to buy food. I encourage everyone to make use of the food library. If you see something in there that you like and know you would eat, please! Take it! Hence the reason I call it a food "library." Try to think of it as a food exchange; perhaps you were gifted with an abundance of cereal but you don't eat a lot of cereal. Maybe you like mac-n-cheese? Make a trade! The foods that are there are open to everyone. Our island food bank does a wonderful job of making sure everyone who needs food gets food- sometimes too good of a job! So, the next time you are at the club, please, check out our little food library! If you see something you would like, take it! And if you are in need, please let us know. We are here to help! Our Onesie Theme Night was so much fun that I decided we should do it again. This month's theme is April in Paris. Dress up in your Parisian, Springtime best to get a $2.00 cocktail and join in the fun! There will be a prize for Best Dressed (but no voting for the hostess!) and we will have another fun quiz. I promise the questions will be easier this time! So, brush up on your French facts and dust off the old homburg and get ready for April in Paris! This year we are packaging, handing out and/or delivering FREE Christmas dinners! This is open to all, so you do not need to be a member to grab some dinners.
During the first two hours of pickup time (2-5pm) we will not have our outdoor-only bar service open. This also means you also cannot come to the outdoor areas to hang out. In addition to wearing masks, repeated disinfecting procedures and other Covid-19 state mandates/CDC recommendations, we are doing our best to limit the number of people who are around the people picking up these meals that are potentially going out to some of the most vulnerable in our community. BIG thanks to Sabrina (who's likeness is on the poster above) for putting this all together! The bar is open from 4-9pm only, and as always, you must wear a mask when not seated and and currently the table limit is 5 people per table. Menu: Glazed Ham, Creamy Spinach Gratin, Scalloped Potatoes, Spiced Apple Compote, Dinner Roll, Tossed Salad Eagles Bar is Closed During the 2-6pm THanksgiving dinner Pickup, but bar is Open from 6-9pm11/26/2020 Good morning, Eagles!
Today we are packaging, handing out and/or delivering approximately 200 Thanksgiving dinners! During this time and during the pickup time (2-6pm) we will not have our outdoor-only bar service open. We hope everyone has a wonderful day even if they can't be with their loved ones! Please don't forget that someone cares about and loves you. If you need food or to see some smiling eyes above a mask, come by and grab a dinner for free. We also want to take a moment to remember and thank the sHebabS Native Americans who were the first people to live on Vashon, and to thank all of the Indigenous people in the Seattle area and the United States. We owe a debt that can never be repaid. Today is not only a national day of giving thanks, it is also a national day of mourning. Here is the zoom information. Please join us if you'd like! Pre-order online before the 26th at Our Mayberry I am super excited to share with you that Vashon Eagles will be hosting the Dental Van (brought to you by VYFS) on October 30th and 31st! We will be providing the space, power, a couple of volunteers, and use of our restrooms for this wonderful humanitarian endeavor. Dental health is important, and many island residents do not have dental insurance and cannot afford adequate care. We hope this can be a regular event at some point!
Unfortunately, I believe all of the appointment slots have been taken for these days, but you can check with VYFS to see if there are any time slots left or when they plan to have the van back here. Please see our Events page for times. Disclaimer: I don't have a picture of the actual van so I used one of the KC Mobile Medical Clinic : ) Over and out. Dawn |
